Introduction for GLV English for Business streams

L3 – L8
L3 Business Stream:
1. Goal: This stream provides an introduction to business basics. Students need to have basic English language skills before participating in the Stream.
2. Period: the stream can be completed in 4 weeks for a total of 16 hours of lessons. The Stream is repeated every 4 weeks.
3. Time: The stream is offered every Tuesday and Thursday, during the Elective period from 1:30pm to 3:30pm.
4. Level: This stream is designed for Level 3 students;
5. Stream content:
        - Basic Business Vocabulary
        - Useful English Phrases & Expressions
        - Business Small Talk
        - Basic Telephone Skills
        - Common Positions & Responsibilities
        - Dress for Success
        - Dos and Don’ts on the Job
        - Planning on the Job
6. Certificates: You can receive a certificate in Basic English for Business 1 after you have completed all 8 topics (2 hours each) as confirmed by the teachers. If students in L3D (1st session) move up to L 4A before completing the Level 3 Business Stream, but still wish to receive the certificate they can join the L3 business Stream as a L4A student to qualify for the certificate.

L4 Business Stream:

1. Goals: This stream can provide a good English-for-Business foundation for students.
2. Period: the stream can be completed in 4 weeks for a total of 16 hours of lessons. The Stream is repeated every 4 weeks.
3. Time: The stream is offered every Tuesday and Thursday, during the Elective period from 1:30pm to 3:30pm.
4. Level: This Stream is designed for Level 4 students;

        - Presenting Yourself in an Interview
        - Being a Team Member
        - Business Communication Skills
        - Business Readings Comprehension
        - Writing e-mails and Letters
        - Customer Service
        - Reaching Agreements in Business
6. Certificate: You can receive a L4 certificate in Basic English for Business 2 after you finish all 8 topics (2 hours each) as confirmed by the teachers. If students in L 4D (1st session) move up to L 5A before completing the Level 4 Business Stream, but still wish to receive the certificate they can join the L4 business Stream as a L5A student to qualify for the certificate.

L5 – L8 Business Stream:

1. Goals: To help students build confidence in using business English in the ‘real’ work place.
2. Period: The Stream consists of 3 modules, covering an 8-week period. You need to complete at least 12 hours of classes in a module to receive a certificate for that module. After 8 weeks the Stream will begin again.
3. Time: The Stream takes place every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, during the elective time from 1:30pm to 3:30pm. Some classes include workshops from 4pm to 5 pm.
4. Level: This Stream is designed for L 5 to L8 students.

GLV can help students become more confident, more fluent, and more accurate in using business English in the areas listed above.
GLV can also provide opportunities for students to gain a better understanding cultures of different countries which can be helpful when business opportunities arise.

6. Certificate: You can receive a certificate for any given module [‘Using English for Career Development’, ‘ Building English Competency in the Business Person’ and ‘ Building English Competency in the Business Leader ‘] upon completing at least 12 hours of lessons within the module as confirmed by the teachers.

Other Remarks:

Operation: A form will be given to students interested in receiving a certificate. The teacher will sign the form after a class has been completed. Once the necessary signatures have been collected, the student must give the form to the AA before the 2nd Friday on any session. An AA will give a student a feedback that must be complete before the student can receive a certificate. Students can receive their certificate from the AA’s after the presentation on the 2nd Friday.
Number of people: There is usually around 20 students per class with a maximum of 25 students.
Age: Students must be at least 20 years old to participate in any of our Business Streams.
Lesson materials: GLV will provide all lesson materials.
